Brand Your eLearning Courses with Custom Themes
Create on-brand SCORM courses with ScormStack's theming system. Customize colors, fonts, and styles to match your organization's identity.
Generic training content feels generic. When your e-learning courses don't match your organization's visual identity, they feel disconnected—like they came from somewhere else. Learners notice, and it affects how seriously they take the material.
ScormStack's theming system lets you build courses that look like they belong to your brand. Define your colors, choose your fonts, and every course you create carries that identity through to the exported SCORM package.
Why branding matters in e-learning
Consistency builds trust. When training materials use the same colors, fonts, and visual style as your other communications, they feel official. Authoritative. Worth paying attention to.
For agencies and consultants, branding is even more critical. Clients expect deliverables that match their brand guidelines—not your authoring tool's default styles.
What you can customize
ScormStack's theme customizer gives you control over the visual elements that define your brand:
Colors
ScormStack's theme customizer includes a comprehensive color palette:
- Primary — The main brand color used for headings, buttons, and key interactive elements
- Accent — A complementary color for highlights, links, and secondary actions
- Gray — Neutral tones for borders, dividers, and subtle UI elements
- Dark — Deep tones for contrast elements and overlays
- Success — Green tones for correct answers, completion states, and positive feedback
- Warning — Yellow/amber tones for caution messages and alerts
- Danger — Red tones for errors, incorrect answers, and critical warnings
- Background — The base canvas color for your course
- Foreground — Primary text color that contrasts with your background
The color picker supports both hex codes and an advanced OKLCH color space for precise color matching. If your brand book specifies exact hex values, you can enter them directly.
Typography
- Heading font — Choose from 30+ Google Fonts or upload your own
- Body font — Separate selection for readable paragraph text
- Font previews — See how text looks before committing
Font pairing matters. A strong heading font paired with a readable body font creates visual hierarchy and improves comprehension.
Layout
- Border radius — Control the roundness of buttons and cards (S, M, L, XL presets from sharp to rounded)
- Heading weight — Set the boldness of headings (Normal 400, Semi-Bold 600, Bold 700, Black 900)
- Navigation style — Choose between classic sidebar or vertical scrolling layouts
Block style formats
Beyond global theme settings, ScormStack lets you control the visual style of individual content blocks. Each block can use one of four background style formats:
| Style | Description |
|---|---|
| Light | White/light background with dark text—clean and readable |
| Dark | Dark background with light text—creates visual contrast and emphasis |
| Theme | Uses your primary/accent theme colors as the background |
| Color | Custom background color of your choice |
Bulk editing block styles
Need to change the style of multiple blocks at once? ScormStack's bulk edit feature lets you:
- Select multiple blocks in your course
- Apply a consistent style format across all selected blocks
- Instantly update backgrounds, padding, and visual treatments
This is particularly useful when:
- Refreshing an entire course's visual style
- Applying consistent formatting to a section
- Converting light-themed content to dark mode (or vice versa)
- Ensuring visual consistency across imported content
Creating and applying themes
Build a theme
- Open the Theme Customizer in ScormStack
- Set your primary and secondary colors
- Choose your heading and body fonts
- Adjust layout settings to taste
- Preview the changes in real-time
- Save your theme
Apply to courses
Once saved, apply your theme to any course. Changes propagate immediately—updating a theme updates every course using it.
Export and reuse
Themes can be exported as JSON files. This is useful for:
- Agencies — Create a theme per client, export it, and reuse it across projects
- Enterprises — Distribute approved themes to course creators across departments
- Consultants — Maintain a library of brand templates for different engagements
Starter templates
Not sure where to begin? ScormStack includes pre-built theme templates you can use as starting points:
- Clean and Modern — Neutral palette with contemporary styling
- Corporate Blue — Professional blue tones suitable for enterprise
- Warm and Inviting — Softer colors for wellness and HR content
- Bold and Energetic — High-contrast colors for attention-grabbing training
Pick a template, then customize the colors and fonts to match your brand.
Branding in exports
Your theme doesn't just affect the editor—it carries through to exported SCORM packages. When learners open your course in their LMS, they see your branding:
- Custom colors applied to all interactive elements
- Your selected fonts loaded and displayed
- Logo placement (if configured)
- Consistent styling across all content blocks
The SCORM package includes everything needed to display your brand correctly, regardless of which LMS hosts it.

Tips for effective course branding
Match your style guide. If your organization has brand guidelines, follow them. Use the exact hex codes, approved fonts, and specified logo versions.
Don't overdo color. One or two accent colors are usually enough. Too many competing colors creates visual noise.
Test on mobile. Preview your themed course on a phone or tablet. Colors and fonts that work on desktop might need adjustment for smaller screens.
Consider accessibility. Ensure sufficient contrast between text and background colors. WCAG guidelines recommend a minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for body text.
Keep logos reasonably sized. A massive logo distracts from content. A tasteful logo in the header or footer is usually sufficient.
Your brand, your courses
Training content should feel like part of your organization—not something borrowed from a vendor. With ScormStack's theming system, you can create visually consistent courses that reinforce your brand at every interaction.
